A recent development has surfaced involving Collin Gosselin and his father, Jon Gosselin. Collin, now 20, publicly expressed gratitude towards Jon for his unwavering support after he came forward about alleged abuse at the hands of his mother, Kate Gosselin.
Taking to Instagram Stories on Tuesday, September 10, Collin revealed the difficulty he faced in speaking out about his mother’s abusive behavior. “It has taken me a long time to find the strength needed to speak about my mother’s abuse,” Collin stated.
“I have finally found my voice, and I hope to be the voice for children everywhere facing abuse. It is never OK.
Your story can be told, just like mine.”
Collin mentioned the challenge of discussing his experiences, adding that he also wants to highlight the flaws in the system that failed him as a child. “Seeing pictures of my younger self is still incredibly difficult, but today I feel a small sense of justice by speaking it,” he added.
In his message, Collin gave a special thanks to his father for fighting hard to gain custody and rescuing him from an institution where he was wrongfully placed. “Thank you, dad,” he concluded.
On the same day, Collin made headlines with accusations that his mother, Kate, now 49, had been physically and verbally abusive towards him during his childhood. In an interview with The U.S. Sun, Collin described a disturbing account of being confined in a locked room in the basement, which had a camera, a tiny window, and a mattress on the floor.
Collin recounted a tougher childhood compared to his siblings, stating, “It was rough. I definitely went through it a lot as a kid from my mother’s end. So, it was tough,” and explained that he was often isolated from his brothers and sisters and took the brunt of his mother’s emotions.
The alleged abuse reportedly started when Collin was about 8 years old, involving multiple instances of being placed in the isolation room, at times with his hands and feet zip-tied.
Jon supported Collin’s statements, sharing an anecdote from the past that corroborated his son’s account. “My friends’ in-laws bought our house, and one time they asked me, ‘Why is there a room in the basement with a bed and a lock on the outside?’ It must have been terrifying for him,” Jon said.
Kate has not yet responded publicly to these allegations, but her attorney told The Sun that he didn’t believe Kate would intentionally harm Collin.
The Gosselin family originally gained fame in 2007 through the reality TV show “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” which showcased their life with twins Mady and Cara, now 23, and sextuplets Collin, Hannah, Leah, Joel, Alexis, and Aaden, now 20. After the show concluded, Jon became the primary guardian for Hannah and Collin until they reached adulthood, but he has been estranged from his other children for several years.
