Officer Who Arrested Tyreek Hill Has Record of Complaints and Discipline

Additional Coverage:

During a traffic stop last weekend, a police officer who knelt on NFL star Tyreek Hill’s back and roughly handcuffed him has previously faced allegations of excessive force, TMZ Sports reveals.

Records from the Miami-Dade Police Department indicate that Officer Danny Torres, who has been with the department since October 1996, has had multiple complaints lodged against him. Over his career, Torres has been accused of misconduct six times, including use of force violations and improper procedures. Additionally, his actions have warranted at least 13 investigations into his use of force.

Torres has faced significant disciplinary actions throughout his tenure, including written reprimands and several suspensions, with one suspension in 2018 lasting 20 days.

However, Torres has also received more than two dozen commendations, including an award for professionalism in May 2023.

Currently, Torres has been assigned to administrative duties as the Miami-Dade Police Department investigates his conduct during the stop involving Hill outside Hard Rock Stadium last Sunday. Hill has accused Torres of excessive aggression and believes the officer should be dismissed. In contrast, Torres’ representatives argue that his actions were warranted because Hill was uncooperative and are seeking his reinstatement.

Hill received two citations from the incident—one for careless driving and another for a seatbelt violation. Despite the encounter, Hill has participated in both of the Dolphins’ recent games, amassing 154 receiving yards on 10 catches.
