Additional Coverage:

**Skowhegan, Maine** — A man convicted of assaulting a child made an attempt to escape from a Maine courthouse, but his plan was quickly thwarted by two jurors and a detective.

On Wednesday, 31-year-old Nicholas Carter tried to run away from the Skowhegan courthouse while still handcuffed, right after being declared guilty of aggravated assault on a 14-month-old child, as reported by the Portland Press Herald.

In a series of videos, Carter is seen sprinting down a courthouse hallway in handcuffs, evading an individual trying to stop him. He exits the courthouse, pursued by several people.

Further footage shows Carter running across a parking lot before he appears to trip and fall in a yard, where he is then detained by two jurors and a detective.

Carter’s guilty verdict came after a three-day trial at the Somerset County Superior Courthouse.

His sentencing for the aggravated assault conviction is expected to take place in the upcoming weeks.
