#### What are the Emmys?

The Television Academy oversees the Primetime Emmy Awards and the Creative Arts Emmys, focusing on comedies and dramas airing in the evening. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences honors soap operas and documentaries with the Daytime Emmy Awards, while the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences celebrates international programming.
The awards got their name after going through various suggestions, finally settling on “Immy,” a nickname for the image orthicon tube used in old TV cameras. This was later changed to “Emmy” to match the female statuette symbolizing the awards.
#### Who is Hosting the 2024 Emmys?
For the first time in Emmy Awards history, the show will be hosted by a father-and-son duo: Eugene Levy and Dan Levy. The pair, known for their award-winning work on “Schitt’s Creek,” will take the stage at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Dan told People in September that while neither he nor his father are stand-up comics, they are dedicated to making the event as welcoming and celebratory as possible.
#### Why Are There Two Emmy Awards in 2024?
Television enthusiasts noticed something peculiar when the Emmy nominations were announced just six months after the previous awards ceremony. This anomaly was due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood from May to November of the previous year, which delayed the 2023 Emmy Awards to January 2024.
Despite airing at the beginning of 2024, that event honored achievements from June 1, 2022, to May 31, 2023. The upcoming ceremony will celebrate works from June 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024, hence creating two ceremonies in one calendar year.
#### How Are Emmy Nominations Received?
To be considered for an Emmy nomination, actors and shows must submit their best work for consideration via an online portal. Actors pick the episode they believe showcases their finest performance, while producers can submit up to six episodes for a series.
After submissions are collected, members of the Television Academy vote to finalize the nominations. While all Academy members can vote in series categories, actors, directors, and writers vote only in their respective fields.
