Arch Manning Scores 2 Touchdowns in 3 Plays After Replacing Injured Texas Quarterback

Additional Coverage:

On Saturday, Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning broke free from family expectations. Manning thrilled fans with a 67-yard touchdown run, the longest of his college career, helping extend Texas’ lead over UTSA.

Entering the game as a substitute after starter Quinn Ewers was sidelined by an injury, Manning quickly made an impact. His first play saw him connect with wide receiver DeAndre Moore for a touchdown, pushing Texas ahead 21-0.

Manning’s performance was capped by another touchdown just two plays later by UTSA’s Robert Henry, which cut Texas’ lead to 21-7. However, Manning responded emphatically.

Running back Quintrevion Wisner began Texas’ next drive with an eight-yard run, setting the stage for Manning’s spectacular 67-yard dash to widen the lead to 28-7 before halftime. Manning continued his dominance in the second half, throwing three more touchdown passes, and leading Texas to a commanding 56-7 victory.

The sight of Manning’s long run was unusual for fans accustomed to his uncles, NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning, known for their traditional pocket-passing style and lack of speed. Unlike them, Arch Manning showcased his mobility, adding a new dimension to his family’s quarterback legacy.

Earlier, Manning displayed similar prowess during a blowout against Colorado State, completing 5-of-6 passes for 95 yards, including his first touchdown pass and rushing score, contributing to Texas’ 52-0 victory.

The highly-touted recruit from Isidore Newman School in New Orleans had limited playtime last season, as Ewers was the primary starter. Ewers returned this year after leading Texas to a College Football Playoff appearance, performing well on Saturday with 20-of-27 passes for 260 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.

Previously third-string, Manning moved up to second-string this season following Maalik Murphy’s transfer to Duke.

In another update, Arch Manning announced his involvement in EA Sports’ upcoming college football video game.
