### Bryan Kohberger Arrives in Boise, Idaho for Relocated Murder Trial
**Published:** September 15, 2024, 2:03 PM EDT
Bryan Kohberger, accused of the brutal stabbings of four University of Idaho students, has been transferred from rural Latah County to Ada County for his pending trial. This move follows a judge’s decision to grant a change of venue request by Kohberger’s defense team.
On Sunday, Kohberger was seen landing in Boise on a small aircraft, from which he was escorted to a black SUV while clad in an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs. Boise, the new trial location, lies about 300 miles from where the crimes took place.
According to online jail records, Kohberger is now under the custody of the Ada County Sheriff’s Office. He had been held in a Moscow, Idaho, jail since his arrest in January 2023.
Latah County District Judge John Judge approved the change of venue earlier this month, citing multiple factors favoring a larger courthouse and a location further from the crime scene.
Bryan Kohberger is alleged to have broken into an off-campus house in the early hours of the morning, fatally stabbing 21-year-olds Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves, along with 20-year-olds Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin.
He was arrested six weeks after the killings at his parents’ home in Pennsylvania, where he was spending his winter break.
Authorities say cellphone data and surveillance footage indicate Kohberger visited the victims’ neighborhood numerous times before the murders. His DNA was also found at the scene. His defense attorneys argue he was merely out for a drive on the night in question, as he often did.
At the time of the murders, Kohberger was a criminology Ph.D. student at Washington State University, only 10 miles away from the crime scene. If found guilty, he could face the death penalty.
