Boar’s Head Liverwurst Discontinued After Listeria Outbreak

Boar’s Head has announced the permanent discontinuation of its liverwurst product. The decision comes after a listeria outbreak linked to the meat resulted in 57 hospitalizations and nine deaths across 18 states.

Jarratt Facility Closed

The Virginia-based facility where the liverwurst was produced has been closed indefinitely. This affects approximately 500 workers. The company stated that unsanitary conditions, including mold and insects, had been reported at the plant since 2021.

Enhanced Food Safety Measures

Boar’s Head has acknowledged the "dark moment" in its history and plans to improve its food safety programs. This includes appointing a new food safety officer, establishing a food safety council, and implementing an enhanced food safety and quality program.

Commitment to Safety

The company remains committed to the safety and quality of its products. It promises to regain trust and ensure that all Boar’s Head products meet the highest standards.
