Kentucky Highway Shooting Suspect Found Dead

The suspect in the Kentucky highway shooting on September 7th is believed to have been found dead. The remains, possibly belonging to 32-year-old Joseph Couch, were discovered near the exit where the shooting occurred. A weapon was also recovered with the body.

The unidentified body was located in thick brush by two troopers and two civilians. Articles found with the body suggest it may be Couch, but positive identification is pending.

Couch had been the subject of a manhunt since the shooting, which left five people injured. The troopers discovered the body while searching for him, guided by vultures and a strong odor.

The McCoys, a civilian couple who were also searching for Couch, appeared to have been livestreaming the discovery. However, troopers were present when the body was found.

The search was challenging due to the treacherous terrain. Authorities had warned residents to be vigilant and check security camera footage.

Investigators found an AR-15 rifle and 1,000 rounds of ammunition near the shooting scene, which Couch had purchased legally that day. The suspect had reportedly sent a text message threatening to kill people prior to the incident. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
