North Carolina Governor Candidate’s Past Racist Remarks Surface
Mark Robinson, the Republican nominee for governor of North Carolina, is facing scrutiny after a CNN investigation revealed a history of inflammatory and racist comments he made on a pornographic website over a decade ago.
The comments, posted under the username "minisoldr," included advocating for the return of slavery, expressing admiration for Hitler, and using derogatory language against civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
Robinson has denied the allegations, claiming the comments are not his and that he will not withdraw from the race. However, biographical details and other evidence suggest the account belongs to him.
The lieutenant governor has a history of controversial statements on LGBTQ+ issues, abortion, and Islam. If elected, he would become the first Black governor of North Carolina.
The CNN report has raised concerns among some Republicans about Robinson’s electability, but his supporters have defended him and suggested the allegations are politically motivated.
