Woman Escapes Python’s Grip After Two-Hour Struggle
A 64-year-old woman in Thailand faced a terrifying ordeal when a 13-16 foot python attacked her at her home. The snake wrapped itself tightly around her torso, leaving her trapped on the kitchen floor.
Despite grabbing the python’s head, Arom Arunroj was unable to free herself. For an hour and a half, she endured the snake’s constriction, crying for help. A neighbor’s intervention alerted authorities who arrived to find the woman exhausted and with the snake still holding her.
Police and animal control officers used a crowbar to hit the python on the head, forcing it to release its grip. Arom had spent two hours in the python’s clutches but escaped with only minor bites.
Python attacks on humans are rare, but not unheard of. Reticulated pythons, found in Thailand, typically prey on small mammals.
Larger snakes may target larger animals, including humans. Fatal attacks have occurred in Indonesia, where pythons have devoured humans in recent years.
