Giuliani Disbarred in DC Following New York Ruling

Additional Coverage:

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been disbarred from practicing law in Washington, D.C. after being disbarred in New York for spreading false claims about the 2020 election.

Giuliani, who represented former President Donald Trump in his attempts to overturn the election results, was suspended from practicing law in D.C. in 2021. The D.C. Court of Appeals ruled to disbar him due to the reciprocal discipline rules between the two jurisdictions.

Giuliani is also facing disbarment proceedings in D.C. over his efforts to reverse the election results in Pennsylvania. The D.C. Board of Professional Responsibility recommended his disbarment for making baseless claims and failing to provide evidence of voter fraud.

Giuliani’s disbarment marks a significant setback for the former mayor, who is also facing legal issues in Georgia and Arizona related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. He has pleaded not guilty to charges in both states and has been held liable for defaming two former election workers in Georgia, resulting in a $148 million judgment against him.
