Hurricane Helene Batters Florida and Georgia

Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 storm, bringing 140 mph winds and heavy rains. The storm caused widespread flooding, power outages, and damage across multiple states.

Gov. Ron DeSantis urged residents to stay indoors as dangerous conditions persisted. At least 3 million homes and businesses lost power, and major airports experienced delays and cancellations.

As the storm moved inland, it weakened to a Category 1 but continued to cause damage. Georgia has reported three hurricane-related deaths, including two in a suspected tornado and a firefighter killed by a falling tree.

Emergency services are working to restore power and provide assistance, while states of emergency have been declared in Georgia, Alabama, the Carolinas, and Virginia.
