California Courthouse Bombing Suspect Alleges Firearm Confiscation Motive

A 20-year-old man, Nathaniel James McGuire, is accused of bombing a California courthouse, injuring five people. Authorities allege that McGuire was motivated by the confiscation of his firearms.

McGuire entered the Santa Maria courthouse on Wednesday and detonated a bomb in a bag. He then fled on foot but was later apprehended.

During his arrest, McGuire reportedly stated that the government had taken his guns and urged people to rebel.

Police believe McGuire’s motive stemmed from a previous arrest for possessing an unregistered firearm. He was scheduled to appear in court on the day of the bombing.

A search of McGuire’s car and home revealed ammunition, weapons, and materials used to make explosives.

The five victims of the bombing sustained non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released from the hospital.

McGuire faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted.
