Rare Footage of JFK Assassination Sells for $137,500

Previously unseen home film footage of President John F. Kennedy’s motorcade after he was shot in Dallas has been auctioned for $137,500. The 8mm color film was taken by Dale Carpenter Sr. on November 22, 1963.

The footage begins with the motorcade passing down Lemmon Avenue, but it becomes more significant after Kennedy is shot. It captures the motorcade speeding down Interstate 35, with Secret Service Agent Clint Hill standing over the president and Jacqueline Kennedy.

The film, which lasts about 10 seconds, provides a unique perspective on the tragic event. It was kept by Carpenter’s family until it was passed down to his grandson, James Gates, who was unaware of its significance until he projected it in 2010.

While the auction house has released still photos from the footage, the video has not been made public.
