U.S. Airstrikes Target Militants in Syria
In two separate airstrikes, the U.S. military killed 37 militants linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) and al-Qaeda in Syria.
Al Qaeda-Linked Group Targeted
On Tuesday, the U.S. targeted a senior militant and eight others from the al-Qaeda-linked Hurras al-Deen group in northwestern Syria. The targeted individual oversaw military operations.
ISIS Training Camp Destroyed
Earlier this month, on September 16th, the U.S. carried out a "large-scale airstrike" on an ISIS training camp in central Syria. The attack killed 28 militants, including four Syrian leaders.
Disrupting ISIS Activities
The military stated that the airstrikes aim to "disrupt ISIS’ capability to conduct operations against U.S. interests, as well as our allies and partners."
U.S. Presence in Syria
Approximately 900 U.S. forces remain in Syria, focusing on preventing an ISIS resurgence. They provide support to the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces in northeastern Syria, near areas where Iranian-backed groups operate.
