Hurricane Helene Devastates Multiple States

Hurricane Helene, a Category 4 storm, has caused widespread damage across Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Satellite images captured by NOAA reveal the extent of the destruction.

Florida: Destruction from Landfall

As Helene made landfall in Florida, winds reached 140 mph. Satellite images show demolished homes, uprooted trees, and debris strewn across Keaton Beach and other coastal areas.

Damage Beyond Florida

The storm also brought destruction to states north of Florida. In North Carolina, Asheville has been hit by severe flooding, while landslides and flash floods have ravaged the region. Georgia has also experienced flooding and power outages.

Unprecedented Storm

Experts say the combination of recent rainfall and Helene’s unusual strength has made the storm particularly destructive. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has called it an "unprecedented" event.

Recovery and Relief Efforts

Hundreds of people remain missing or unable to contact loved ones. States are coordinating disaster relief efforts, but reaching rural areas remains a challenge.

Helicopters are being used to deliver supplies to mountainous areas. FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell has pledged to continue providing critical aid.
