Hurricane Helene Batters Asheville, Florida

Additional Coverage:

Hurricane Helene has caused widespread devastation across the southeastern United States after making landfall in Florida. Despite being downgraded to a tropical depression, the storm has left hundreds dead, millions without power, and billions of dollars in damage.

The storm has particularly impacted western North Carolina, where it has caused a level of destruction not seen in over a century. Buncombe County alone has reported 72 deaths, contributing to the state’s total of 108 fatalities. South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and Virginia have also reported deaths due to the storm.

Aerial and satellite images reveal the extent of the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. The damage includes flooded homes, downed trees, and washed-out roads, cutting off communities from emergency relief.

As cleanup efforts begin, residents are advised to take precautions against flood and storm damage. The hurricane season is not yet over, and Florida remains at risk due to the season’s prevailing winds.
