US Ending Benefits for Certain Chinese Immigrants

Additional Coverage:

The Biden administration has announced that individuals whose temporary parole under the Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans (CHNV) program is expiring must either apply for other immigration benefits or leave the United States.

The CHNV program was created to reduce illegal immigration from these four countries and allow eligible individuals to enter the U.S. legally on a case-by-case basis for humanitarian or public benefit reasons.

Parolees were granted temporary permission to work and pursue immigration benefits or humanitarian relief during their two-year parole period. However, those who do not obtain immigration benefits or pending applications by the end of their parole period will have to depart the U.S. or face removal proceedings.

The Department of Homeland Security emphasizes that the CHNV process has been successful in reducing border crossings from the southwest.
