Vanderbilt Upsets Alabama, Shakes Up Playoff Race

Additional Coverage:

Alabama, the top-ranked team in college football, suffered a shocking upset on the road to Vanderbilt, a team that had not beaten a top-five opponent in over 60 games.

Vanderbilt took an early lead and never looked back, stunning Alabama 40-35. This is Vanderbilt’s first win over Alabama since 1984.

Alabama entered the game as a heavy favorite, but Vanderbilt’s defense and opportunistic offense proved too much to handle. The Commodores intercepted Alabama’s Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback Jalen Milroe twice, returning one for a touchdown.

Alabama’s loss opens up the SEC title race, with several other teams still undefeated. Alabama remains in the hunt but now has a much smaller margin for error.
