Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the assault on former New York Governor David Paterson and his stepson. The 12-year-old suspect faces charges of second-degree gang assault, while the 13-year-old is charged with third-degree gang assault.

The attack occurred on Manhattan’s Upper East Side on Friday night. Five individuals approached Paterson and his stepson, leading to a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical fight.

Paterson sustained a head injury, while his stepson suffered more severe facial injuries. Both were treated at a local hospital.

Paterson stated that his stepson initially encountered three of the teenagers climbing a fire escape. An argument ensued, and later, a larger group confronted Paterson and his stepson on Second Avenue. The former governor claims that two adults intervened, sparking the fight.

Paterson reported being punched in the face and shoulder. He threw one of his attackers against a McDonald’s window. Police have released descriptions of the five suspects and are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying them.

Paterson and his stepson were released from the hospital early Saturday morning. Paterson has requested that people refrain from using the incident for political gain. He and his wife expressed gratitude for the police response and support they have received.
