Mega Millions Price Hike Coming Soon

Mega Millions Ticket Prices to Increase

Mega Millions, the popular lottery game, will increase its ticket price to $5 starting in April 2025. This is double the current cost of $2.

Overhaul Aims for Larger Jackpots

The ticket price hike is part of a revamp to generate even larger jackpots. Mega Millions has awarded six billion-dollar wins since its launch in 2002. The most recent winner in March received $1.13 billion in New Jersey.

“New and Improved” Features

Details of the game’s changes are still to be announced, but the consortium promises larger starting jackpots, faster jackpot growth, and better odds of winning. Every ticket will also have a multiplier to boost non-jackpot prizes up to 10X.

Increased Value

The consortium emphasizes that every win will be worth more than the ticket cost, eliminating “breakeven prizes.”

Second Price Increase

This is only the second time Mega Millions has raised its price since its inception. The first increase was from $1 to $2 in 2017.

No Changes to Powerball

Currently, the Powerball also sells tickets for $2 in 45 states. As of now, there are no plans for any format changes to Powerball.
