North Korea Threatens Nuclear Strike

Additional Coverage:

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has warned that any attack from the United States or South Korea will be met with a nuclear response. This warning comes amid ongoing tensions on the Korean Peninsula and concerns about a possible provocation before the upcoming US presidential election.

Kim made the threat during a speech at Kim Jong Un University of National Defense. He emphasized that North Korea’s nuclear weapons will not hesitate to be used in case of attack. He also stated that the country’s efforts to become a military and nuclear superpower will be accelerated.

This warning follows comments made by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, who stated that North Korea’s regime will be eliminated if it launches a nuclear attack. South Korea recently unveiled a new “bunker buster” missile, the Hyunmoo-5, capable of carrying a massive warhead.

Kim criticized Yoon’s remarks, calling him an “abnormal man” and accusing him of relying too heavily on the United States. He emphasized the need for wise political decisions and conflict prevention rather than confrontation with a nuclear state.

Relations between North and South Korea have deteriorated in recent years due to North Korea’s weapons tests and aggressive rhetoric, as well as South Korea’s hardline stance. North Korea has declared South Korea its “principal enemy” and is reportedly considering constitutional changes that reject reunification.

Pyongyang has also recently showcased an enrichment facility for weapons-grade uranium, raising concerns that North Korea may be preparing for a provocation before the US election.
