Man Arrested for Threatening FEMA Workers in North Carolina

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office has arrested William Parsons for allegedly threatening to harm FEMA workers.

Witnesses reported seeing Parsons with assault weapons and making threats on Saturday. Deputies found Parsons armed with a handgun and a rifle. He was released after posting a $10,000 bond.

Threats Against FEMA Workers Continue

Threats against FEMA workers have been a concern during the Hurricane Helene response. The Ashe County Sheriff reported threats, but it’s unclear if they are connected to Parsons’ arrest.

FEMA Adjusts Operations

Out of caution, FEMA has paused door-to-door assistance and is working at fixed locations instead. Disaster survivor assistance teams remain active.

FEMA Administrator Condemns Threats

FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell has condemned the threats against employees, calling them a “distraction.” FEMA hires local workers to assist in disaster response.
