Supermoon Shines Bright This Week

Additional Coverage:

The third of four consecutive supermoons will grace our skies this week. Supermoons occur when a full moon is closest to Earth, making it appear larger and brighter. This week’s moon is special as it’s the largest and brightest supermoon of the year.

The best time to view the supermoon is Wednesday or Thursday at moonrise. If possible, use a telescope to enhance the experience. The moon’s proximity to the horizon creates an optical illusion, making it appear even larger.

This full moon is also known as the Hunter’s Moon, reflecting the time when animals prepare for winter. Supermoons are relatively common, so if you miss this one, another will appear soon. However, it’s rare to have four consecutive supermoons, all of which are full moons, as we have this year.
