Governor Relocates Homeless Ahead of Taylor Swift Concerts

Additional Coverage:

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has ordered state agencies to relocate homeless individuals before Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concerts and Super Bowl LIX. The order aims to “put its best foot forward” for tourists and concertgoers.

The Louisiana State Police, wildlife department, and transportation department are collaborating to move encampments and “reclaim public spaces.” The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries states that they are “supporting safety” by upholding state laws.

Troop NOLA, a specialized unit established by Landry, will assist in the relocation efforts. They claim to engage with the homeless community to understand their needs while ensuring public safety.

However, city officials, including Nathaniel Fields from Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s office, have criticized the sweeps. They argue that the state’s actions hinder the city’s efforts to provide housing for the homeless. Fields has requested that the governor work with the city instead of “part of the problem.”
