Philippines Devastated by Tropical Storm Trami

Over 100 people have died or gone missing in the Philippines after Tropical Storm Trami caused widespread flooding and landslides. President Ferdinand Marcos has stated that many areas remain isolated, with people in need of rescue.

Rescuers have recovered bodies from mudslides in Talisay, Batangas province. The death toll is expected to rise as communication is re-established with isolated regions.

Marcos visited affected areas and acknowledged the unprecedented rainfall that overwhelmed flood control systems. He announced plans for a major flood control project to address climate change threats.

Millions of people were affected by the storm, with nearly half a million seeking shelter in emergency centers. Ferry services were suspended, stranding thousands.

Schools and government offices remained closed for the third day to ensure safety. Cleanup efforts are underway in areas where the weather has cleared.

The Philippines is regularly impacted by storms and typhoons. In 2013, Typhoon Haiyan devastated the country, leaving thousands dead or missing.
