A U.S. Army specialist, Wooster Rancy, has been arrested and charged with murdering fellow soldier Sarah Roque.
Roque, 23, was found dead in a dumpster at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri last week. Rancy, 21, is also facing charges of obstructing justice.
Rancy, a combat engineer from Miami, joined the Army in 2022. The motive for the killing remains unknown.
Roque, from Indiana, was reported missing after failing to report for duty. Her death has been ruled a homicide.
Roque served as a mine dog handler and received several military honors during her service.
Fort Leonard Wood’s commander expressed grief over the tragedy, saying that such incidents are a nightmare for families and the unit.
