A Texas man charged with intoxication manslaughter for allegedly striking his child’s mother with a vehicle will retain his parental rights while out on bond.
Deadly Vehicle Incident
In May, Canyon police responded to a crash involving Ulise DeLao, 28, and Brittany Torres, 27. Torres was pronounced dead at the scene, and DeLao was arrested for intoxication manslaughter.
Parental Rights Maintained
Despite the charges, DeLao was released from jail in October after posting bond. At a recent hearing, Judge James Anderson allowed DeLao to maintain parental rights for his one-year-old son.
Victim’s Family Outraged
Torres’ aunt, Jessica Heller, has criticized the justice system for failing her niece and her son. She alleges that DeLao was abusive and should be denied parental rights.
Alleged Confession and Evidence
DeLao reportedly confessed to hitting Torres with his vehicle. Court footage allegedly shows him dragging Torres out of a truck twice on the day of the incident.
