Taste Test: Store-Bought Alfredo Sauces
After trying eight jarred Alfredo sauces, I ranked them based on flavor, texture, and cost.
1. Classico Alfredo
Classico Alfredo had a silky texture that clung to noodles well. It had a strong cheese flavor and a noticeable black pepper taste.
2. Rao’s Alfredo
Rao’s Alfredo had the richest flavor, with a creamy, cheesy taste and noticeable black pepper. However, its thin consistency was a drawback.
3. Newman’s Own Alfredo
Newman’s Own Alfredo had a creamy texture and a mild flavor with a hint of black pepper. It contained no artificial ingredients.
4. Prego Alfredo
Prego Alfredo had a thicker consistency and a robust, garlicky flavor. It had a good balance of cream, cheese, and spices.
5. Bertolli Alfredo
Bertolli Alfredo had a creamy and buttery flavor with a slight tang. It was a reliable choice but could have used more seasoning.
6. Ragu Alfredo
Ragu Alfredo had a decent texture but a bland flavor. It lacked cheesiness and tasted a bit bland, despite containing garlic and other spices.
7. Botticelli Alfredo
Botticelli Alfredo had a unique, tangy, and slightly sweet flavor. It was thick and gloopy in texture and had a strong cheese scent.
8. Kroger Alfredo
Kroger-brand Alfredo had a silky texture but virtually no flavor. It would require a lot of additional seasoning to improve its taste.
Overall, Classico Alfredo was the best choice for its combination of flavor and texture. Rao’s Alfredo had the best flavor but lost points for its thin consistency.
