Local authorities are investigating the raid that led to the death of beloved social media star Peanut the squirrel.
Peanut’s owner, Mark Longo, confirmed the Department of Environmental Conservation is conducting an internal investigation into the seizure and subsequent killing of Peanut and another pet, Fred the raccoon.
Longo is optimistic about the investigation’s seriousness, which contrasts with the initial response to the incident last month.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no information has yet been released regarding whether Peanut or Fred had rabies, as they were euthanized for testing.
