Navy Pier Shooting Suspect Arrested
Chicago police have apprehended and charged Raylon East, 36, with the murder of two former coworkers at Navy Pier.
East, a former employee of Levy Restaurants, allegedly shot and killed Peter Jennings, 47, and Lamont Johnson, 52, on Wednesday. The killings occurred in the administrative offices of the restaurant.
Authorities described East as a “disgruntled employee” who had been fired for aggressive behavior. Police identified him as a suspect shortly after the incident and arrested him on Thursday.
East made a pretrial appearance on Saturday, where he was denied bail. Prosecutors presented video evidence showing him shooting the victims in the head at their desks. They also retrieved a gun from Lake Michigan, which they believe was the murder weapon.
Navy Pier was briefly closed after the shooting, and a shelter-in-place order was issued. East faces charges of first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a weapon.
