Bannon back in court for border wall fraud case

Additional Coverage:

A New York judge has denied a request to postpone Steve Bannon’s upcoming fraud trial. Bannon, a former White House adviser, is accused of deceiving donors to an online fundraiser for a wall on the US-Mexico border.

The defense sought to move the trial into January, but the judge left open the possibility of a later date after a hearing on evidence prosecutors wish to present.

Prosecutors argue that the evidence is crucial to establishing Bannon’s motive for allegedly defrauding donors, while Bannon’s lawyers say they need more time to respond.

Bannon, who was pardoned by former President Trump in a related federal case, has denied any wrongdoing, claiming he was reimbursed for legitimate expenses.

After being released from prison for contempt of Congress charges, Bannon lashed out at law enforcement, including Attorney General Merrick Garland and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
