Pennsylvania Senate Race Heads to Recount

A recount is underway in Pennsylvania’s Senate race, triggered by the narrow margin between Republican Dave McCormick and Democrat Bob Casey. The unofficial results showed a difference of just over 29,000 votes, or 0.4%.

State law requires a recount for margins below 0.5%. The recount will begin no later than November 20th and must be completed by November 26th. The results will be published on November 27th.

McCormick’s spokeswoman has called his lead “insurmountable” and a recount a waste of time and taxpayer money. Casey has not conceded, stating that the democratic process will play out.

The race has been closely watched, as Trump carried Pennsylvania in 2020. However, the vote count shows a significant drop-off between Trump and McCormick, with Casey also lagging behind Vice President Kamala Harris.

Senate Republicans have already secured the Senate majority, but the Pennsylvania race could still impact the balance of power.
