House Republicans have appointed Lisa McClain as their new Conference Chair, replacing Elise Stefanik. McClain, who previously served as Conference Secretary, was favored over Kat Cammack in the internal race.
McClain received support from various Republican groups, including the House Freedom Caucus and national security hawks. Cammack was endorsed by Rep. Byron Donalds and organizations like the Log Cabin Republicans.
The Conference Chair is responsible for messaging within the House GOP. The appointment of McClain comes after House Republicans unanimously re-elected Mike Johnson as Speaker and Steve Scalise and Tom Emmer as Majority Leader and Majority Whip, respectively.
