Retiring in Mexico: A Dream Home and Financial Security

My husband and I decided to explore retirement abroad due to financial concerns. After researching various countries, we chose Mexico, where our savings would last longer.

In 2020, we moved to Mérida, Yucatán, and purchased a dream home for $270,000. The cost of living is significantly lower than in New York, with reduced healthcare and real estate expenses.

Our combined income is lower, but our savings are lasting longer. Health insurance costs less than $2,200 annually for both of us, and we pay minimal taxes.

While we have concerns about future healthcare and the uncertainty of Medicare, we feel secure in our retirement. We own our home outright, and Social Security should provide a comfortable living.

Retirement calculators no longer cause us anxiety because we have a solid financial foundation. We have a dream home, financial security, and peace of mind in our adopted country.
