FBI Arrests Man in Alleged Stock Exchange Attack Plot

Additional Coverage:

A 30-year-old Florida man, Harun Abdul-Malik Yener, has been arrested for planning to bomb the New York Stock Exchange.

Yener allegedly aimed to “reboot” the U.S. government by detonating the bomb remotely. He had been under investigation since February for storing bombmaking materials in a storage unit.

According to the FBI, Yener searched online for bomb-making information and had rewired radios to trigger an explosive device. He also discussed targeting the stock exchange, believing it would cause significant damage.

Yener had a history of threats, including threatening to shoot up a restaurant. He was denied membership in extremist groups for expressing his desire for “martyrdom.”

Yener’s first court appearance was held Wednesday, and he will remain detained pending trial. His motive for targeting the stock exchange remains unclear.
