Hawley: Mayorkas, Wray Skipped Hearing Due to Riley Verdict

Additional Coverage:

Republican Senator Josh Hawley has accused Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and FBI Director Christopher Wray of avoiding public scrutiny over the murder of Laken Riley.

Mayorkas and Wray were scheduled to testify before a Senate committee but postponed the hearing, demanding it be classified. Hawley is demanding they appear publicly.

Hawley claims Mayorkas lied about the background of Riley’s murderer, Jose Ibarra, who was an illegal immigrant. Mayorkas now refuses to comment on the matter.

This is the second time Mayorkas and Wray have postponed public testimony, insisting on a classified setting.

Hawley wants the Senate to issue subpoenas to force Mayorkas and Wray to testify publicly.

Hawley has also called for Wray’s resignation, citing his stance on illegal immigration and alleged bias against Catholics.
