Texas Wins Right to Keep Razor Wire Border Barrier

Additional Coverage:

A federal appeals court has ruled that Texas can build a razor wire border wall to prevent illegal immigration.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott welcomed the decision, claiming that President Biden was wrong to remove the wire. The Republican leader said that Texas would continue to add more razor wire barriers.

The court’s ruling allows Texas to pursue a lawsuit accusing the Biden administration of trespassing by removing the fencing. It also overturned a previous judge’s refusal to grant an injunction to Texas.

Circuit Judge Kyle Duncan, a Trump appointee, wrote for the majority that Texas was only trying to protect its property and was likely to succeed in its trespass claims.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton called the ruling a “huge win for Texas.” He said that the Biden administration was now prohibited from damaging or interfering with the state’s border fencing.

The White House has been engaged in legal battles with Texas and other states that have attempted to curb illegal immigration. The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals is also reviewing a judge’s order blocking a Texas law that would allow state officials to arrest and remove undocumented individuals.
