Putin boasts of ‘Oreshnik’ missile’s extreme heat

Additional Coverage:

Russian President Vladimir Putin has revealed new details about the Oreshnik missile, a hypersonic ballistic weapon recently used in Ukraine.

Putin stated that the missile’s warheads contain destructive elements that reach temperatures over 4,000 degrees Celsius (7,000 degrees Fahrenheit), causing severe damage even several floors beneath the impact site.

Despite not carrying a nuclear warhead, Putin emphasized that multiple Oreshnik missiles could replicate the impact of a nuclear strike.

The UK Ministry of Defence believes the Oreshnik is a variant of the Rubezh RS-26 missile, which has a potential range of up to 5,800 kilometers (3,600 miles), capable of reaching targets across Europe and the UK.

Experts suggest that Russia’s use of the Oreshnik sends a message to the West, particularly Europe, about its influence on defense and security issues beyond Ukraine.
