State of Emergency Declared in New York as Major Snowstorm Approaches
Officials in upstate New York have declared a state of emergency in preparation for a significant snowstorm. Eleven counties, including Erie County, are under emergency orders as the storm dumps heavy snow.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced that 100 National Guard members are assisting local communities. The storm is expected to bring 3 to 5 feet of snow to areas like Watertown.
Travel Restrictions and Advisories
Travel advisories are in place for Jefferson, Lewis, and parts of Erie counties. The state Department of Transportation has banned empty commercial vehicles on certain roads.
Lake Effect Snow and National Guard Deployment
The storm is bringing lake effect snow, where cold air interacts with warm lake water. Extra National Guard personnel have been deployed to assist with potential power and road emergencies.

Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania have already experienced heavy snowfall. Gaylord, Michigan, set a single-day snowfall record with 24.8 inches.
