American skier Mikaela Shiffrin crashed during the World Cup in Killington, Vermont. The accident occurred during her second run of the giant slalom, leaving her unable to finish the race.
Shiffrin, 29, was leading the race before her fall. She was taken off the slope on a sled and met with applause from the crowd. Her condition is currently being evaluated.
Sara Hector of Sweden won the race, followed by Zrinka Ljutic of Croatia and Camille Rest of Switzerland.
Shiffrin was hoping to reach her 100th World Cup victory in this race. She will have another chance to achieve this milestone in the slalom event on Sunday.
This crash is not the first major setback for Shiffrin this year. In July, her fiancé, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, was hospitalized after a ski crash.
