Navy Thwarts Houthi Attack in Gulf of Aden

Additional Coverage:

Two US Navy destroyers, the Stockdale and O’Kane, successfully defended against an attack by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in the Gulf of Aden over the weekend.

The destroyers escorted three US merchant vessels, and the attack involved three anti-ship ballistic missiles, three one-way attack drones, and an anti-ship cruise missile. The destroyers were able to defeat all the weapons without any injuries or damage to the vessels.

The incident comes after US forces conducted retaliatory strikes against Houthi weapons storage facilities in Yemen in mid-November. These facilities housed advanced weapons used to target US and international vessels in the region.

The attack highlights the ongoing efforts of US forces to protect their personnel and international shipping from threats posed by the Iran-backed Houthis.
