Having a Baby in Our 40s: Challenges and Rewards

My wife and I longed for three children. We welcomed our two daughters in our 30s, but faced miscarriages in between. When our daughters were in their teens, I convinced my wife to try for a third baby in our 40s.

While our daughters were a joy, raising them was easier in our 30s. We had more time for family activities. However, in our 40s, we had to sacrifice family time.

My wife experienced complications during our third pregnancy, which added stress. After Mason’s birth, she struggled to recover as quickly as she had with our daughters.

Sleep deprivation is a constant challenge now, as Mason is not a good sleeper. This takes a toll on us, especially with my wife’s health concerns.

Despite the challenges, we find joy in raising our son. While we may be older and wiser, we face similar struggles as parents in their 30s, such as carrying our child around, making baby food, and singing lullabies.

We are committed to providing Mason with the same love and attention we gave our daughters. While we have much to learn and re-learn, we are embracing this journey one step at a time.
