Man Protects Wife from Polar Bear Attack in Remote Canadian Community
In a heroic act, an unnamed man in Fort Severn First Nation leaped onto a polar bear to shield his wife from harm. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning when the couple encountered the bear in their driveway.
The woman was knocked to the ground, and her husband swiftly intervened, preventing the bear from attacking her. The bear then turned its attention to the man, inflicting serious injuries to his arm and legs.
A neighbor arrived with a gun and shot the bear, causing it to retreat and die in nearby woods. The injured man was taken to a nursing station for treatment.
Climate Change Impacts Polar Bear Behavior
Polar bear attacks on humans are rare, but climate change is altering their behavior. As sea ice breaks up, bears are forced inland to search for food, bringing them closer to human settlements.
Scientists advise individuals encountering polar bears to fight back aggressively, as playing dead is ineffective against these predators.
