Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Evan Engram has been fined for retaliating against the Houston Texans player who injured quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Engram’s $11,255 fine stems from his altercation with linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair following Al-Shaair’s hit on Lawrence, which resulted in a season-ending concussion.
While Engram faced a fine, Al-Shaair received a three-game suspension for his role in the brawl.
Lawrence is now on injured reserve and will undergo shoulder surgery. Texans coach DeMeco Ryans criticized the Jaguars for “overreacting” to the hit, but Jaguars coach Doug Pederson defended his team’s actions.
Al-Shaair has apologized for the hit but has also expressed frustration with the public response. He recently posted a cryptic message on Instagram that hinted at his willingness to be seen as a villain.
