Actor Jon Voight has weighed in on two recent high-profile cases, praising Daniel Penny and criticizing Luigi Mangione.
Voight hailed Penny, a Marine veteran, for his bravery in subduing a homeless man who was threatening passengers on a New York City subway. Penny was acquitted in the man’s death.
However, Voight condemned Mangione, an Ivy League graduate charged with murdering the CEO of UnitedHealthcare. Voight called the shooting “a sick thing.”
Voight emphasized the importance of distinguishing between right and wrong. He urged people to hold themselves to high standards of behavior and to use those standards to judge the actions of others.
Voight believes that the Penny and Mangione cases are starkly different. He argues that Penny acted heroically to protect others, while Mangione committed a heinous crime.
