Elon Musk Sues OpenAI to Block Profitable Business Structure

OpenAI released emails showing that Elon Musk previously pushed for the company to become for-profit. Despite opposing this move now, Musk has twice sued OpenAI to prevent it.

In a legal filing, OpenAI accused Musk of trying to hinder it while developing his rival company, xAI.

The company’s timeline claims that Musk helped create a for-profit structure for OpenAI in 2017. However, he allegedly backed out after failing to secure majority ownership.

Musk left the OpenAI board in 2018 but reportedly remained involved until 2020. OpenAI now alleges that Musk is trying to block its mission as it competes with his own AI company.
