Geminid Meteor Shower to Peak This Weekend
The annual Geminid meteor shower is expected to reach its peak overnight Friday and into Saturday morning. Skygazers can look forward to a dazzling display of shooting stars.
Optimal Viewing Conditions
For the best viewing experience, experts recommend finding a dark location away from city lights. The shower will be visible in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres, but a nearly full moon may affect visibility of fainter meteors.
Tips for Viewing
To maximize your chances of spotting Geminids, lie on your back with your feet facing south. Give your eyes time to adjust to the darkness and avoid looking directly at the Gemini constellation.
Other Celestial Sights
In addition to the Geminids, skywatchers can also enjoy views of Jupiter and a formation of three bright stars known as the Winter Triangle. Jupiter will be visible between the moon and the star Aldebaran. The Winter Triangle is made up of Sirius, Procyon, and Betelgeuse.
