Colorado Star Wins Prestigious Heisman Trophy
Travis Hunter, the versatile two-way player for the Colorado Buffaloes, has been crowned the 90th winner of the Heisman Trophy. As a cornerback and wide receiver, Hunter edged out Ashton Jeanty of Boise State in a close vote by just 214 points.
First Non-QB in Two Years to Win Award
Hunter’s victory marks the first time a non-quarterback has won the Heisman since 2020, when Alabama’s DeVonta Smith took the honor. He is also the first defensive back to win since Michigan’s Charles Woodson in 1997.
Closest Vote Since 2009
The race for the Heisman Trophy was the closest since 2009, with Hunter receiving 552 first-place votes and Jeanty garnering 309. The third-place finisher, Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, accumulated a distant 516 points.
Hunter’s Historic Achievement
Hunter’s triumph is a historic moment for Colorado football, as it marks the first time a Buffaloes player has won the Heisman since running back Rashaan Salaam in 1994.
