- 2024 Heisman Trophy voting: Ashton Jeanty finishes second to Travis Hunter in closest race since 2009 (cbssports.com)
Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty fell just short of winning the 2024 Heisman Trophy, finishing second to Colorado’s Travis Hunter. Hunter won by a narrow margin of 214 points, the closest victory since 2009.
Jeanty had an incredible season, leading Boise State to a conference title and a College Football Playoff appearance. He rushed for an astonishing 2,497 yards, just 132 shy of Barry Sanders’ all-time record. He also scored 29 touchdowns, tying the most by a single player since 2013.
Jeanty’s dominance went beyond the raw numbers. He had at least 100 rushing yards in every game, including 17 halves with over 100 yards. He also had 13 consecutive games with over 125 yards rushing.
If Jeanty had won, he would have been the first Boise State and Mountain West Conference player to receive the Heisman Trophy. He would have been the first non-power conference player to win in this century and the first non-quarterback since 2020.
Hunter received 552 first-place votes to Jeanty’s 309, but Jeanty’s 309 first-place votes are a testament to his exceptional season.
